Some of you know, we’ve been using the Hatch Baby Rest since Joey was still sleeping in a crib. Before we discovered the Rest, we relied on our iPad to play white noise through the night and eventually got a battery operated doll that made white noise. Both did not work well for us because sometimes the batteries would run out too quickly or we would want to turn it on and off without opening the door.
When we finally heard about the Hatch Baby Rest, Joey was going through a major sleep regression and would wake up crying in the middle of the night. It became so hard for us to walk over to her room at various times in the night and try and soothe her. But NO LIE, when we turned on the Hatch Baby Rest for the first time, it magically soothed Joey back to sleep through the different hues and sound selections that we were able to choose remotely from the comfort of our bed!
I CANNOT EMPHASIZE ENOUGH just how much we love this sound machine. I’m even writing a blog post about it because I want every parent to try it out. I love genius baby products, and this is one of my favorites. Not only did Joey sleep better, so then Allen and I!
Hatch Baby Rest vs. Hatch Baby Rest+
Before you try this product, I have to tell you about the new model called the Hatch Baby Rest+. It has more features than the original one. Take a look at this chart.
It has everything that we love about the original Rest plus extra new upgrades!
- Alexa-enabled: You can control Rest+ with Alexa
- Two-way audio monitor: We use this feature often to check in with Joey and Casey. We used to have a sound monitor in their rooms but we eliminated them once we got the Rest+ because it includes it. We can also speak to them through the Rest+. Can’t count how many times we used that feature already!
- Clock: You can turn it on and off from the app but helpful when you want to see what time it is when all the lights are turned off at night!
- Portable: Rechargeable battery for portability. This is everything especially if you’re traveling and staying at a place where there aren’t enough wall outlets!
I believe music, sound and colors are so important for babies and children of all ages. It can easily calm a child down and also help them prepare them for a part of the day which would sometimes can be difficult to get through. I like to wake up Casey to the sounds of birds chirping in the mornings through the Rest+ before I go in to pick her up (You can program tracks to play at a certain time).
Don’t know if you noticed but she wakes up so happy every morning. Every time we get her ready for a nap or put her down to sleep at night, we turn on the Rest+ and she often starts to rub her eyes and yawn because the track we use tells her that it’s time to sleep. We also use the ocean wave white noise for her while she sleeps overnight and have it turn off automatically after she falls asleep.
We still use it for Joey whenever she has some trouble falling asleep and it still works like a charm. It’s just amazing that all you would love to have is all included in this one device alone. I have one for myself in my room and I use it as an alarm clock. It’s the most pleasant way to wake up to sounds of the forest!
I also have to mention that this is one of my favorite baby shower gifts to give and parents have told me that they LOVE using it. If you want to try one out, you can check out their website for more details at hatchbaby.com.

If the power goes out does it automatically switch to battery or do you have to enter the room to turn it on using the batteries?
Laura says
Hi Megan, I am not sure because we haven’t been in that situation but maybe try contacting the company with that question.

I’ve never tried any of the version but it looks pretty cool! We’re about to start sleep training soon (with this book, highly recommended on blogs: http://parental-love.com/shop/baby-sleep-training – do you know it?) and I think it may be very useful at the time!

I have a Rest+ and I love it! It gives me so much of a free mind I think. Although I was also using Susan’s Parental Love book for sleep training and Mia basically doesn’t have any sleep problems anymore. Great book!

I have Susan Urban’s book and I’m willing to stick to it. I’ve read so much about it and my friend used HWL method and she says it’s super gentle. Although this Rest+ looks really good. This design! Like no other. And if it connects to Alexa maybe my husband would show any interest! 😉
